Spectacular Book I Just Finished

So You Wanna Be a Rock & Roll Star: How I Machine-Gunned a Roomful of Record Executives and Other True Tales from a Drummer's Life
by Jacob Slichter

For those of you who don't know he was the drummer of one of my all-time favorite bands, Semisonic. If you were a fan of this band it is an absolute must read. If you are unfamiliar with them or were not a fan, it is worth reading as well. It offers a great insight into the world of "The Music Industry." An incredibly interesting look into what the labels will do to "sell" a band.

I absolutely loved this movie, especially the scene with Albert Molina and Stephen Coogan. Be warned however, this is not a film for those of you who want to be spoonfed your comedic delights. But, if you are a person who loves dry humor the definately check this one outthis is a film for you.

Smile

Smile

Well since i didn't work today I got hyped up on Stewert's Coffee and went and got two tickets to go see Brian Wilson play on saturday. What a steal, only 35 dollars. Granted thats the cheapest ticket, but not a bad price to see one of the most influential musicians in Rock's history. I mean you think you are gonna get into a Paul McCartney or Who concert for that much money. I don't think so. Well I'm goingto go sit down to a dinner of hot dogs, baked beans, and french fries and watch Jim Jarmusch's "Coffee and Cigarette's" and George A. Romero's "Day of the Dead."

Brian Wilson's "Smile"

Well he has finally finished it. I'm streaming it right now, and from what i've heard so far i like it. check it out here.

Ammuntion Bunkers

Ammuntion Bunkers
Originally uploaded by flyin j.
Well I spent a few hours this aternoon at Midewin and hiked 4 or 5 miles. This is one of maybe 100 ammuntion bunkers located off of one of the trails I hiked. They have a grass covering to camoflage them to possible enemy bombers above. I went and opened one to find out what they looked like. They have about 9 inch this concrete walls and ceilings and are approximately 20' X 50.' All that there was however was a whole bunch of Mud Wasps that had made a home in the crack of the door. I managed to shut the door and somehow get away with out being stung. See the Audio-blog for a little more on my trip.

Why Radio Sucks

"Before passage of the 1996 Telecommunications Act, a company could not own more than 40 radio stations in the entire country. With the Act's sweeping relaxation of ownership limits, Clear Channel grew from 40 radio stations to approximately 1,240 radio stations in 300 cities, and now dominates the audience share in 248 of the top 250 radio markets, according to Clear Channel's corporate fact sheet"

Computate

My friend has brought it to my attention that their is no such word as "computate."

I will have you all know that i will not let this deter me and I will begin a campaign of using the word COMPUTATE more vigorously than ever imagined.

how is that that strange songs that you haven't heard in a long time or that you dispise always end up in your head. Here are the songs i've woken up to in my head tha last few days.

1. "Good-bye Yellow Brick Road" Elton John. I don't know any words to this song except "good-bye yellow brick road" I will havethe the whole song, verses and chorus go through my head but with no words but those.

2. "Bumble-Bee Tuna" Mephiskaphales (ska band) was introduced to this song by my friend Margit in High Schol. I haven't heard it since, but its been in my head all day.

3."I've been Working on the Railroad" Traditional. This song is actually fun, because you can easily make up words to it to fit whatever you have been doing.

Poker Your Eyes Out

So I played some poker tonight and not only did I take the kids to school, I drove the bus.

In other news from Conan O'Brian (?) tonight.

as George Bush in 2004 is to 'We got Cat Stevens!'"

Quotable Quotations

"If future generations are to remember us with gratitude rather than contempt, we must leave them with more than the miracles of technology. We must leave them with a glimpse of the world as it was in the beginning, not just after we got through with it."

Back From Vacation

Well I'm back from a great vacation. I have never seen so much wildlife. Within 200 yards of driving in Wind Cave National Park, we saw Bison, Prairie Dogs, Mule Deer, a herd of Antelope, and an Elk. It was awesome.
In other news I was hoping to go see the Twins play at Comiskey tonight but I am alas too poor to even afford the half-priced nights.

The Graduate being 5 outta 5.

Went to the theater and saw Garden State the other day. It was a quality "coming of age" film. Which I am always a big fan of. i would say it's in the top ten, maybe around 6? Also, not a spoiler by any means, but it has Method Man in it as well.
