I love Planet of The Apes, and this film does not disappoint. There are a ton of nods to the original film for the geeks out there, and they do a great job of creating an origin story. The animation was great on the big screen. I never once thought about it looking cheesy. The picture above is of Caesar and his "Generals." It was one of my favorite shots in the movie, and I'm glad I found a screen cap of it to put on here.

Wow... One of the craziest films I've seen. This film went places I was never expecting with some great twists and turns. The middle section gets a bit long as it supplies the back story, but that was soon forgotten once I realized where they were going with it. Stylistically it has been awhile since I saw a movie this cool.

I can tell you this. Not a dry eye in the house. A heart-warming story where father abandons son, but then gets him back, and then sells him for 100K to his step-uncle, but not before they create a giant robot to fight in the high stakes realm of World Robot Fighting. I know we've all seen this movie before. I mean how many films have used this exact same plot.

But what sets this one apart are the little things... like Danny Elfman's powerful, yet strangely familiar, score. Was that "Shiloh" by Neil Diamond, or Hugh Jackman's James Cagney-like accent, and the knowledge that, in the future, all computers look like Tron-like tablets.

To be serious for a moment though I must say, and this pains me... this movie was way better than it should have been.

A marked improvemnet over Thor. Pure fun from beginning to end. I really enjoyed how they weaved the back story together so that it will match up with the present day set films, especially the addition of Tony Stark's father. Hugo Weaving was great playing Hitler's more evil General. Was I the only one who thought when the mask came off that it was actually Ghost Rider leading the Storm Troopers against the world. Actually for some reason a lot of this film kept reminding me of Star Wars. C3PO on the Stealth Bomber, the Speeder Bikes chasing Captain America on his motorcycle...

Awesome movie. I had given up on X-Men after the third movie, but this one is probably the best of the group, and its not a surprise to see Bryan Singer's name attached to it. He was responsible for the first to X-men films. The only downside of this movie was the stupid Wolverine cameo which is a little tough to look past bu whatever. This movie was great.

Source Code is one of those films that is pretty enjoyable thriller if you dont think too much about the plot. I liked the premise that you can tap into the last 8 minutes of a dead person life to see what they experienced, but ultimately thought towards the end they could have done more with it. Instead they start making their way into the dreaded time-continuum hole that almost always leaves more questions than answers. Nearest I could tell they didnt even need to. Anyway though, if you just want to zone out and watch an exciting movie its great for that.

Now this is a movie worth seeing. I don't know if it is worthy of the hype it has received, but It is definitely one of the funniest films I have seen in a while. Melissa McCarthy (far left in the above photo) steals every scene she is in, and Chris O' Dowd who plays the Irish cop, is very enjoyable as the straight-man to Kristen Wiig. I cant say that this film blazes any new territory, but it will get you the drudge of comedies that are currently out there.

As much as I have enjoyed all of the movies from Marvel's "Avengers" series this is definitely the worst. I don't mean to say its bad, it's just really hard to care about anything that is going on. Most of the movie takes place on Thor's planet in this Shakespearean tale of blah-blah-blah where they are fighting the Frost Giants from some other planet. The only parts of the movie that were interesting were those that were on earth, because once again. I don't care about two other planets fighting over whatever.

lastly I still am having trouble watching Natalie Portman in a film without thinking about "Black Swan".

Though I don't think this should have been nominated for best picture, Christian Bale certainly earned the best supporting actor award he received. Looking almost as sickly as he did in the Machinist he simply steals this movie from Mark Wahlberg. It certainly is more than just another boxing movie, although that is never a bad thing.

Darren Aronofsky has quite a reputation for emotionally-charged, intense films ("Requiem For A Dream" and "The Wrestler") and this film is no different. I'm honestly on the fence on if this is a better film Than "The Wrestler." Without a doubt this film should have beaten "The Social Network" for best drama at the Golden Globes. The movie draws you in to its insane world and keeps you on the edge of its sanity until the curtains close. Natalie Portman is incredible and who knew that Mila Kunis could actually act. Though I suppose the argument could be made that she didn't stray to far from past characters.

I suppose I could find out by reading up on it, but I don't have that kind of time, so I'll just pretend its all real and maybe add in a few extra details of my own to make it even more salacious.

To say Jeff Bridges is great is obvious, but I don't know if this warranted the hype that it is receiving. It is really good movie, but the last twenty minutes could have easily been left off to make it a great movie. It's one of those films that would be great if done by some run-of-the-mill director, but I guess I expect more from the Coen Brothers. I have seen all of their films and would probably rate this their 9th best. Which are better you ask? Well here is my list in no particular order.
Big Lebowski, Raising Arizona, Fargo, Simple Man, No Country For Old Men, Intolerable Cruelty, Man Who Wasn't There, O Brother Where Art Though, and Barton Fink.

Danny Boyle is movie gold. Save his try at a romantic comedy ("A Life Less Ordinary") I have loved every movie of his, and this one was no different. I watched most of the film thinking it was just ok, until the ending, which should win an Oscar for best use of a Sigur Ros song.

On a side note, once the cutting began, some dude had a panic attack in the back of the theater and had to leave.

Oh yes. This was exactly what we wanted. Great zombie killing action, Milla Jovavich being a bad-ass, and huge plot holes. For instance the huge dude with the hammer in the picture above. The film never states who or what he is, or why he is in the film. But I suppose the answer to all thos questions is the following...

There was no way I wasn't going to see this movie. It lived up to all the hype I created for it in my own mind. Highlights included Jason Statham hanging out the front of an airplane shooting people and Terry Crews throwing a warhead in the air so that Stallone could shoot it with his pistol. Ridiculous from beginning to end, and I loved every minute of it.

I failed to see what all the complaining was about. This movie was great. Gwyneth Paltrow was really good in a n expanded role, Micky Rourke kicked all sorts of ass, and Scarlett Johannson makes every movie better. This was a great addition to the new Marvel world they are creating and I cant wait for "Thor" next spring and "The Avengers the year after that.

#4 Nightmare On Elm Street

The second film of the drive-in night was the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street. This film also was pretty bad. Being that it starred the guy in the photo above who played John Connor in "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" I was really hoping that the Freddy Krueger that came to kill him in his dreams would be a Terminator with blades on his hand. That would have been pretty sweet.
Other key items about this film:
1) Have the cast seemed to be rejects from the Twilight series
2) both this film and The Losers (the other half of the double-feature) had members of the film The Watchmen
3)Film lacked Terminators
4)Film lacked gratuitous nudity (no one knows how to make a horror film anymore
5)Johnny Depp did not cameo

Well this movie is dumb. However it was made better by the fact that it was seen as a part of a double-feature at the Drive-In. It's hard to ask for more in a drive in film. It was loud and things exploded. I guess all it was missing was out-of-place gratuitous nudity.

I am way behind on this. I actually saw this quite a while ago. All in all it wa sa decent film. I was a little confused why 1) it was promoted as a horror/ghost movie, and 2) why it was never mentioned that it was based on a novel by Dennis LeHane. The latter would have been enough for me to see it. I love his novels, and previous films made from his books (Mystic River and Gone Baby Gone) were big successes.
The film had some good twists and turns, but to veteran film goers weren't big surprises. However the acting and filming were great. It's certainly worth checking out.

Well its 2010 and this i the first movie I have seen. Babies have a tendency to cause that from what I understand. But none-the-less we found a sitter to get out and see Crazy Heart (I refused to see Avatar.) I'm sure I made the right decision as I loved this movie. The music is great and Jeff Bridges is perfect in it playing a down-and-out country singer. I couldn't get over how much he looked like Kris Kristofferson and Waylon Jennings. Other surprising items I liked about the film; Colin Farrell, who barely gets credited for being in the movie, does a great job, and... SPOILER ALERT!!! Robert Duvall is in the movie. Once again, I didn't know he was in it. It made a great movie almost perfect.

this was the first film of our apocolyptic film fest one weekend. Its very dark and dreary, and follows the book almost to the page. Its not that its a bad film, its just a much easier read. The highlight of the film is that Robert Duvall is in it. I didn't recognize him until about 5 minutes into his scene, which made it even better. I love it when i don't know duvall is in a movie and then he just pops up to steal the scene. Without a doubt one of the top 5 male actors of all time.

The Coen Brothers are back. They seem to have some sort of code where they put out a great movie then follow it with a mediocre to bad one to fill the time until the next great film. This movie about a down-and-out man who just keeps getting stepped on by everyone is great from beginning to end. The film is very funny with clever dialogue that would only get better with multiple viewings. I wouldn't be surprised to see this film garnering a cult status as many of there dark comedies before. Definitely check this one out.

#18 Inglorious Basterds

The movie wasn't quite what I was expecting. Based on the previews I certainly thought it was going to be more violent and be about "The Basterds" going around torturing Nazis. There is very little of "The Basterds" in the film. Most of them in the opening scene are never seen again, much too our disappointment. We were really looking forward to Samm Levine being a tough guy. Also, B.J. Novak (from The Office) is seen early and then forgotten only to reappear later in the film for no real reason with no explanation of why he is in the scene.

Back to the plot, the bulk of the movie centering on Tarantino's favorite theme; Women getting revenge. The movie is a bit long, and the payoff scenes aren't so great that you can look past the extensive build-ups. The best scenes are those involving Christopher Waltz as "The Jew Hunter." He steals every scene, and it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for him to get an Oscar nod this January.

As far as Tarantino I'd say that this is one of his weakest films, with the only worse one being "Death Proof." It would really do him well to get back to concentrating on clever stories than making homages to whatever genre he is really into at the moment.

In Matt Damon's best ever spy film, we find him going undercover in the world of spice manufacturing to stop the global threat of food price fixing. Ok maybe that's not quite the story but its very close in this fun movie based on the crazy life of Mark Whitacre. If you want a very good background in the story listen to the radio broadcast that inspired the movie 8 years ago. It can be found at This American Life

i really enjoyed the film and really only saw one problem. I don't quite understand Steven Soderbergh's use of '70s inspired music and transitions fr a film that takes place in the 1990s. Otherwise the film is great.

Ugh. If there is one movie genre I hate, its films about depressed people who live in LA. I didn't realize they were in LA until about 30 minutes into the film, but as soon as I did I started getting irritated. I'm not sure why the reviews are so good for this film. The characters are generally unlikeable and spend much of the movie moping around complaining. Next time I want to see that I'll save the 5 dollars and just call a few people I know.

#14 The Hangover

I finally got around to seeing this one. It is by far the funniest movie I have seen in along time. We snuck in after seeing "Funny People," and it nearly erased my memories of it. The story of fours guys who wake up the night after a bachelor party which many insane things happened, but no one can remember. All they know is that the groom cant be found, and the must somehow sort through clues form the previous night to find where they left him. Zach Galifinakis finally gets his turn on the big screen and he steals every scene with his dry and sometimes bizarre wit. I can only imagine that after this we will be seeing a lot more of him, and that is fine by me.

Another hit for Judd Apatow only this time in a more serious vein. The film deals with marital discourse and death, but still has plenty of laughs. As in most of his films the co-stars steal the show. This time it being Jason Schwartman and Jonah Hill who drop in whenever the films needsvto be lightened up a little. Another thing I really enjoyed in this film is how they used old footage of Adam Sandler (as well as other characters) from his early days of standup to meld in scenes of his younger days. Lastly the scene of the movie has to go to the performances at the Myspace.com show and the great cameo by James Taylor.

I'll start by saying that Bruno is a very funny movie, and definitely goes where no rated R movie ever has. If you were offended by Borat then you don't stand a chance with Bruno. Unfortunately it doesn't play very well as a movie. It feels like a bunch of skits strung together with a week plot. Which is probably more evident when you read the original title "Bruno: Delicious Journeys Through America for the Purpose of Making Heterosexual Males Visibly Uncomfortable in the Presence of a Gay."

Sam Raimi finally returns to horror after that horrid slide through the Spiderman movies, and he does a great job with it. Drag Me To Hell is just his style with a great mix of humor and scares. Rated PG-13 its not gory, but you will squirm in your seat anyway, as he spares nothing looking for ways to gross you out. Its fun from beginning to end, and is the kind of film that makes you long for a drive-in theater.

Ok, so in the past I made a proclamation that Terminator: Salvation would unseat Fast and Furious (2009) as the best quadrilogy ever. I was definitely wrong. I hadn't been this excited for a movie in quite awhile. However, it ended up being quite the let down. It is basically just a big dumb loud action movie. It offers little in the way of intelligent storytelling that had been demonstrated by other parts of the Terminator universe. I wouldn't say skip the film, but don't go out of your way to see it. The perfect time would be some dreary and damp fall weekend when you happen upon it at the video store.

Oh my goodness, could an action movie really be this boring? The answer is yes. I guess I knew it wouldn't be good based on the fact that there were no actors in it who anyone had ever heard of, and it was directed by the "visionary director of 300." There were story lines that you would think would be good but in the end it leaves you just bored. It really not even worth watching as an action movie, because in reality no one wants to watch a nearly 3 hour movie just for the special effects.

It has been pointed out to me that I have the same initials as James Tiberious Kirk. Why is this important you ask? Because he is awesome, therefore one can conclude that I must be also. Well you know what is also awesome? THIS MOVIE. from start to finish it delivers on all levels. Whether you are a Star trek fan or know nothing about Star Trek you can enjoy it. They did a great job casting the actors in the roles especially the guy who plays Bones McCoy. he is dead on. just go see it.

One thing to watch our for: John Cho plays Sulu, so be on the look out for what appears to be an unlisted cameo by his "Harold and Kumar" buddy Kal Penn. I saw it. It was awesome.

#7 "Fast and Furious"

A film that just continues a string of awesomeness. This time it mixes things up a little bit by giving the traditional motorhead something to root for. A stronger concentration on classics with frontline use of a 1970 Chevelle, 1970 Charger and 1972 Gran Torino. I am temporarily crowning this the Greatest Quadrilogy Ever. Temporarily because Terminator 4 will be out in a month. I think a special Oscar should be given to films that know what they are and don't try to be something else. Why are all the Fast and Furious movies completely AWESOME? 3 items: fast cars, hot women, and unbelievable chase scenes. All four movies promise it, and all four movies deliver it.

I saw this awhile ago now. It was a good movie, and vonny said it was one of her most favorite films she has ever seen. Unfortunately I fell asleep. Really with no excuse. It was 1:00 in the afternoon, and it was interesting. I guess i was just sleepy. Either that or it was the 3D glasses. This also happened when we went to "Nightmare Before Christmas" in 3D a few years ago. On a final note this movie is not a kids movie. Any kid under say 12 would be scared to death. Super Creepy.

Often you hear critics say that such and such actor has the role of a lifetime Well that statement was invented for Mickey Rourke and this film. I don't think there should be any doubt in anyone's head that he should win Oscar for best actor (yes even over Jason Statham; who was snubbed in every category again.) He is completely engrossing as Randy The Ram, a washed up professional wrestler who is living out each sad day knowing that his end is near. This is the first movie I have seen in a couple of years that has brought a tear to my eye. It is surprising that this was passed over for a best picture nomination. I guess everyone is just too enamored with the the mediocrity of Benjamin Button. As a bonus the main theme song is done by Bruce Springsteen.

Boy i'm at a bit of loss on how to describe this movie. Eastwood is a complete badass. Just look at that poster. If you ever wondered what happened to Dirty Harry the answer is that he retired and moved to Detroit. This is a great movie, in fact everyone I know who has seen it agrees. You should see this, maybe not the best movie I have seen in the last year, but my certainly my favorite.

#2 "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"

Well this is a good movie, but certainly not a great one. I'm not sure what all the Oscar buzz is about. Honestly it should only win one. Best Make-up. Its a sweet story but not a tear-jerker. This brings me to my main complaint. The setting of much of the movie is in New Orleans just before Hurricane Katrina makes landfall. During these scenes an old women on her deathbed is telling the story. I believe there is only one reason that they use hurricane Katrina as the setting as opposed to just having her in a normal hospital. That is because the filmmakers realized that It didn't carry the emotional heft that they were looking for. So perhaps by reminding people of a horrible tragedy they can ring out the tears that their movie did not.

One other minor issue. Don't ever cast Tilda Swinton and Cate Blanchett in the same film. Its far too confusing.

If I had seen this movie yesterday it would have been a lock for the best movie of 2008. I loved this movie and recommend that everyone sees it. Its a bout a guy who grows up in the Slums of Mumbai and goes on "Who wants To Be A Millionaire." The movie then follows hims through the questions and shows us the experiences of his life that taught him the answers. Its directed by Danny Boyle who has the golden touch it would appear with his past 3 films being "Sunshine," "Millions," and "28 Days Later." Definitely check this out.

At any rate I decided to do my top 3 this year as a I saw less films, and what I saw really wasn't that interesting. So Here they are (please hold applause until I am finished.)

#24 "My Name is Bruce"

In what ended up being the final movie we saw in an underwhelming year we went to the special presentation of "My Name is Bruce," starring B-Movie Hero Bruce Campbell. The movie is exactly what you would expect from a B-Movie. Its kinda funny and kinda good, but if your not a huge fan of Bruce Campbell then you should skip it. I'm not a huge fan myself but since he was there to do a Q&A session afterward we figured it would be worth going. We weren't disappointed either. He was very funny and spared no chance to make fun of the uber-geeks who were there asking him questions of all types of geekness. My favorite was this exchange:

Well i think that photo just about sums it up. Statham is shirtless in about every scene of this movie. I found this film to be a bit disappointing. It had some great stunts (the car driving sideways between the semis was awesomely ridiculous) but the editing was atrocious. The fight scenes were so quick-cut that for the first time ever I started getting a bit of motion sickness during a movie. I've heard people complain about that before (Blair Witch and Cloverfield) and I always thought it a bit ridiculous, now I understand. Eventually the movie gets bogged down with a forced romance between Statham and the female lead. In the past two films when there wasn't action they at least kept you interested, here you just get bored and irritated. I predicted that Jason Statham would sweep the Oscars with Death Race. Now I am convinced, because this film offers no challenge.

#21 Sigur Ros "Heima"

I caught this at a local film festival. Its a documentary following the Icelandic band Sigur Ros on its impromptu tour of its homeland following its 2006 world tour. It plays as a long music video moving from town to town each one being represented by one song with interviews in between towns with the touring band members. During the songs the film juxtaposes between live footage of the band and shots of the town and the Icelandic countryside. Its interesting but lacks enough high tempo songs to keep up the energy.

Recommend for die hard fans

This movie was somewhat disappointing. I agree with a statement that was made to me that this film feels like Coen Brothers Lite. Without a doubt while watching it you know it is one of their films as it has the feel of "Fargo," "The Man Who Wasn't There," or "Barton Fink." However it just feels a bit empty. Kind of like a throwaway that they put together to pass the time. I would list high points of Brad Pitt and JK Simmons, and down points to George Clooney, and the unflushed out point of Americans and their obsession with beauty. I would say if you are a fan of the Coens to rent it when it comes out, however it certainly falls in the middle of their catalog as far quality.

2. Have lots of cars being demolished

Truly that is all that is really needed. Film makers really work too hard. This movie is great from beginning to end. Trust me you will not need to see any other films this year. As this one will run away with all of Academy Awards.

Ahh I loved this movie. It was hilarious from beginning to end. It was unexpectedly gory for a comedy, but none-the-less had the most realistic fight scene between three idiots ever filmed. Another film from the world of Judd Apatow and friends they just keep striking gold. Lastly the best line is also the only line in Hollywood's history as well as it's future to include the junker of a car Daewoo Lanos. I will laugh whenever I see one again.

The action movie bonanza continues with Incredible Hulk. I really liked this movie. Almost as much as "Iron Man." It was interesting to learn that this movie is tied in with "Iron Man," and that they are the first two films of a series that will be released over the next few years culminating with an Avengers film that includes all the characters together on a team. I definitely am looking forward to teh furure films. I find these comic book films to be much better than the path that "Dark Knight" has taken. Though Dark Knight was a better film, it is nowhere near as much fun to watch.

Well we went and saw this opening weekend like everyone else. Its everything that you have already heard. An incredible movie. It reminded me of "No Country For Old Men" in the way that its a very good movie, but you can't really rave about it, and you don't necessarily want to see it again. The one thing I didn't like about it was a scene involving Batman and Morgan Freeman's character where they rip off the classic James Bond gadjit scene. Perhaps they were trying to do an homage, but it just came off as awkward as opposed to funny. Also don't let kids near this film. They will have nightmares for years.

Well we wasted 12 Pounds (yes that's 24 dollars "DAMN YOU WEAK DOLLAR") on this bomb while on vacation in England. Get ready though, it hasn't been released in the US yet. You still have to wait until August 1st. Don't be fooled by the awards lauded on it by different festivals. The only people who will like this movie are people in Hollywood. It's an awful, pretentious film about a struggling actor and a struggling screen writer in Hollywood who are on a first date. We then have to spend an hour watching them complain about how bad they have it and how lonely they are.

In this film Jason Segal does his best to try and balance the male vs female scale of nudity in Hollywood. Its tough job, but someone's gotto help Harvey Keitel out. This is a real funny film from the pantsless Jason Segal (star, writer, and director) done under the guidance of Judd Apatow, so it contains all the makings of a Judd Apatow film as well as many of the same stars. So if you liked "Super Bad," 'Knocked Up," or any of the comedys he's been churning out the last few years check this out. Bonus Kristen Bell and Mila Kunis are ridiculously cute.

This movie was stupid and awful. It was like a really bad B Movie. The kind that you would make fun of and jokes through if you weren't angry that you paid 9 and a half bucks for it.

It wasn't "Pirates of the Carribean 3" bad or "Mission Impossible 2" bad. But I think if you were to rank it in the category of 4th films in a series it would take a fall behind "Alien: Resurrection" and Jar Jar Binks' "Star Wars Epidsode 1." The dialogue was written down for the most brain dead of fans, and the plot proved that Spielberg and Lucas certainly have no ideas left. There were few parts of this film that were interesting, but there is no way that I could recount them now. Nor will I waste much effort trying.

So I admit I haven't been seeing too many movies. Part of thi is lack of interest, some of this is lack of good movies. I guess after the Oscar high I have crashed.

I have seen however I am Legend. This movie was really bad. I guess my hopes weren't too high because I knew that it couldn't compare to Charlton Heston's "Omega Man." I guess like most action films now days it is right on par. its boring with predictable scares and massive plot holes.

2008: #2 "Double Indemnity"

This was the first of a five week series of Noir films playing at a local theater. I plan on seeing a few more in the upcoming weeks. Essentially the plot is as follows: woman in unhappy marriage, suckers insurance agent into falling for her, uses him to murder her husband. It was a decent film. I believe it won a number of Academy awards back in '44. I would say if you are looking to watch a film like this you would be better off to check out the other two I reviewed from the fall Noir Series.

2008 Presents: #1 "There Will Be Blood"

Well I'm off to a bit of a slow start. My first film of the year is "There Will Be Blood" starring Daniel Day Lewis. It's a spectacular film from beginning to end. I won't be surprised if it dominates the Oscars this year. Personally my favorite part of the film was the soundtrack. Its a mix of eerie off-key strings and percussion. It reminded me a lot of some of the films of the early seventies and late sixties. Most notably "Planet of The Apes."

"Pirates of The Caribbean: At Worlds End." The only film this year that caused a near walk out. So incredible bad that I just want to go out side and burn down the first video store or movie theater I see. Ahh. AHH! I'm just angry writing this. This must stop. it's time for a new year.

#41 "Sweeney Todd"

I would like to thank Tim Burton for bringing back The fluorescent red blood of the 1970's. Seriously where did he find that stuff. Perhaps it is to add color to a virtually black and white film. Which leads me to the best scene of he film. About mid-way through the meatpie lady has a dream sequence that takes place out at the beach. It injects every bright color known to man onto the screen causing you to almost enter an epileptic state. It was also cool o see Time Burton bring back the "contraption" scene that used to be in all of his films. It was incredibly cool. I don't normally like musicals. In fact, it would be better to say I hate them. i thought that i could get past that because it was Tim Burton. Which ended up being true, though it was a close one. Lastly Johnny Depp's singing sounds exactly like David Bowie. This statement caused Vonny to laugh out loud in an awkward moment in the theater. I didn't mean it as a joke.

#40 "Into The Wild"

I was impressed with how well "Into the Wild" played. It is completely watchable without having read the book. There were a few interesting details of the main character's, Chris', childhood that were added to the movie that didn't exist in the book. These details helped add some reason to why Chris left on his travels. I assume that since the film says that the family aided in the making of the film that these are details that have either come to light in the last decade, or that the family was now willing to make them public, and not just Hollywood glorifications. I also realize that little of this is probably Making Sense to you if you haven't read the book. Well then. If you have read the book - see the movie. If you have seen the movie - read the book. If you haven't done either - go do both.

We went and caught Juno this past weekend during the blizzard. What can i say. Its as funny as it looks. The only bad part was the scene with Rainn Wilson. Pretty much every line he has is in the trailer so it really wasn't that funny seeing it for the umpteenth time. I also could have used a few more scenes with JK Simmons in them that guy is hilarious.

#38 "The Mist"

We just got back from seeing Stephen King's "The Mist." Seriously I am speechless. This movie was one of the best movies I have seen this year. Its incredibly intelligent and thought-provoking. Its probably categorized as a horror film, but it is far more. It reminded me of another mislabeled horror film, "Frailty" which came out a few years ago. Not in plot, but in feeling.
I honestly don't know what I can say except SEE THIS MOVIE.

Ok I'll admit it. Vonny and I love Milla Jovavich films. Why? Probably because she kicks all sorts of ass in them. This film was pretty good and had some interesting additions to the zombie genre. Most notably Zombie Crows.The film doesn't stand on its own. The other two will need to be viewed for it to make sense. I have seen the other two, but either I don't remember key details or they never existed. Being that the movie is taken from a video game the plot is generated from that. Does any of this matter. No because if you didn't see it already you aren't going to. That being said:

This is a little independent documentary about corn. "Boring!" you say. Not so. The film explores how corn makes its way from the field into nearly everything we eat. This is something that I had noticed over the years, but the makers take the time to tell us why this is. I would say that this is probably the best documentary I have seen this year. It doesn't go on the offensive like so many documentaries do these days, but shows both sides of the story with a humanizing perspective. The film is not perfect. Fortunately what it lacks in is not in presentation of information, but in technical skills of the makers. However this is their first film, and undoubtedly their skills will get better over time

This film is being heralded as one of the best of the year. I would say it maybe cracks my top 10. I saw it with 4 others, three of whom hated it. It follows a non-linear path which didn't bother me, but did most all others seeing it. Personally I think they were just looking for another reason to dislike it. Especially since they all like Tarantino. It has an interesting premise, but a group of characters that no one could like. I wold say that if you want to go see this then instead go to the video store and rent Sidney Lumet's best film "Dog Day Afternoon"

Best line in reaction to the film: "If I never see a Phillip Seymore Hoffman sex scene again it will be too soon."

Well if you are thinking to yourself, "I don't know if I should see this, because I don't remember the first one and never saw the second." Let me assure you that you have nothing to worry about. Its really just a 2 hours of chases and explosions. Its start with a good premise that quickly ends. This was too bad because it could have been a much better plot than the one that they went with.
A garden variety espionage thriller that I wouldn't recommend.

The last film in the monday night Noir series, the Big Sleep is a classic Bogey and Bacall pic. The writing was snappy and the atmosphere was great. Like a lot of these films sometimes the dialogue gets going a little too quick for me and you miss key clues, but in the end it doesn't matter as the plot is secondary.

The Coen Brothers have come out with one of their best films in awhile. Its one of those films that is very good, but tough to describe. Not to mention one of the best villains, Javier Bardem's character Anton, I have ever seen in a film. I certainly will say its great, but I can't say run out in see it. One of the best films of the year, but not a film for everyone.

A newly rehabbed theater opened in Minneapolis and are doing a series of old Crime-Noir films. I was able to catch this one. It was really a lot of fun.

Private Eye Mike Hammer spends tracking leads to find out who tried to kill him in the opening scene. Along the way many people get beat up, a few die, and every woman is scantily clad (for teh 1950's.) Oh and did I mention that he makes out with all of them. The clues lead him to a mystery box filled with a glowing light that is somewhat nuclear. The opening of the box is very much like similar items in Repo Man and Pulp Fiction. Anyway I doubt you will ever see this, but if you happen across it on tv of the video store I highly recommend watching it.

Well its been awhile since I saw a movie. Kind of a bad lull between summer blockbusters and quality fall films. But I got a chance to see Big Lebowski as a midnight film at a local theater. If you know me you know this is one of my favorite films. I originally saw this in the theater back in '98 with my friend BT. At the time I said it was awful. I eventually learned that I didn't understand it. It's just flat out great!

This is the first intelligent psychological Sci-Fi film that I have seen in a long time. Which is great if you are a fan of the genre like I am. I loved this film. Visually this is the most beautiful film I have seen this year. To go along with that it is an intense film that has a driving energy that was reminiscent of the directors last film 2005 film "28 Days Later."

We got t see Super Bad. This movie was hilarious from beginning to end. If you don't like a lot of sex jokes, this isn't the film for you. However, it has the coolest opening credits in a film this year, as well as the most accurate portrayal of police officers I have ever seen.

This was a beautiful little film with spectacular music. The film doesn't feel forced to follow standard romantic drama formulas, and it makes for such a refreshing experience. My only complaint is the camera work which appears to be all done on a hand-held, which causes it to be very jumpy. It took me about an hour to get used to it, and i even felt a bit woozy at times. I think i was the rare case on this though.

If you are thinking to yourself, wasn't "Black Sheep" that sort of funny Farley/Spade follow-up to "Tommy Boy" You wouldn't be wrong. It is however also the title of a monster film to come out of New Zealand. I think the imdb.com key plot word some this up fairly well: Experiment Gone Wrong, Sheep, Death, Mutant, Creature.
A very funny yet stomach-turning film where some genetically mutated sheep go nuts and start killing everyone. The horror of it reminded me of the last good movie Peter Jackson made, "Dead/Alive" (US title)
My only complaint was that the "low-brow" jokes were a bit heavy-handed and would have been funnier if they had been more subtle. Overall a good film though.

Well this was an enjoyable popcorn movie. As the rating system says it has "non-stop action violence." They crash every sort of vehicle into every other sort throughout the film. Planes into cars, cars into helicopters, cars into cars, trucks into cars, spaceships into submarines, well maybe not the last but you get the point. If you want to see a movie where a lot of stuff blows up. This is the one for you.

What a frustratingly bad movie. This was rough since first film was so enjoyable, and to sit through this nonsensical piece of trash. This movie makes no sense at all, and only has one good thing going for it. That is the same cool music that was used in the first. Only in the first it actually served a good purpose, that is too add suspense. This movie had no suspense just scene after puzzling scene leaving you asking "What? That doesn't make any sense at all." I highly recommend not seeing this film.
